Umar Abdullahi made his long-awaited debut for the Nigeria Super Eagles on Tuesday, coming off the bench and providing an assist for Akor Adams’ goal as Nigeria played out a thrilling 3-3 draw.
The appearance marked the first senior international game for the talented winger, who wore jersey number 11 and made an immediate impact after being introduced. His energetic display and attacking contributions earned him praise as he impressed during his maiden appearance for the three-time African champions.
Abdullahi’s Super Eagles debut represents a significant milestone in a journey that began at the grassroots level in Ilorin, Kwara State. He is a graduate of Gnosis Stallions Football Academy in Ilorin and later featured in the Nigeria National League (NNL) with Kebbi United before making the move to Europe.
The opportunity to represent Nigeria at senior international level is therefore a dream come true for the youngster, whose career has continued to progress since leaving the domestic scene for Europe.
The FC Hradec Králové player had already announced himself on the European stage in August when he came off the bench against Panathinaikos in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers.
Abdullahi produced a stunning late impact in that encounter, scoring in the 87th and 96th minutes to rescue Hradec Králové from defeat and secure a dramatic 2-2 draw.
His two-goal performance demonstrated his character, attacking quality and ability to make a difference under pressure, qualities he again displayed during his Super Eagles debut.
From Gnosis Stallions Football Academy in Ilorin, through Kebbi United in the NNL and into European football, Abdullahi has now reached another major landmark by earning his first cap for Nigeria.
