Opeyemi Qudus delighted with home debut win for Kwara United
Kwara United forward Opeyemi Qudus has expressed his delight after making his home debut for the Harmony Boys in their 2-1 comeback victory over Ranchers Bees of Kaduna in the Euromatch NPFL Matchday 7 fixture.
Qudus was introduced in the 70th minute and immediately added pace and attacking intensity to the Kwara United side. His clever run into the final third and stylish backheel set up Aliu Ferinyaro, whose cross was headed home by Gideon Chukwu to complete Kwara United's comeback victory.
Speaking after the match, Qudus praised his teammates for their resilience and belief despite going behind, insisting that Kwara United remained the better side throughout the encounter.
"I'm really happy because we never gave up. We believed we could turn the game around because we were the better side throughout the game," Qudus said.
The home debutant also expressed his appreciation to the Kwara United supporters, describing them as the team's "12th man" and saying he was pleased to mark his first appearance at home with a victory.
"I'm really happy to play in front of our fans because they really supported us throughout the game. They are our 12th man, so it's good to make my home debut with a win in front of the fans," he added.
Qudus revealed that his focus after coming on was to help the team find the winning goal, believing that a second goal would demoralise Ranchers Bees and allow Kwara United to exploit their pace late in the game.
"All that was on my mind was how we were going to win the game. I knew that if we got the second goal, they would be demoralised because they couldn't match our pace at that moment of the game," he explained.
The youngster, who made his NPFL debut in Kwara United's 1-0 away defeat to Warri Wolves before playing the full 90 minutes in last week's narrow 1-0 loss to Kun Khalifat in Owerri, has now made an encouraging impact in his first home appearance.
Looking ahead, Qudus has set ambitious targets for the remainder of the campaign, including helping Kwara United secure continental football while also reaching double figures in goals and assists.
"My target going forward is securing a continental ticket for the team and getting into double digits in goals and assists this season. But I believe something big will happen, either we become champions or secure a continental ticket," he concluded.
