Valiant FC Product Tunde Akinsola Joins Cercle Brugge on Permanent Deal Until 2030
Valiant FC product Tunde Akinsola has completed a major move to Belgian Pro League side Cercle Brugge, joining the club permanently from Portuguese outfit AVS Futebol SAD on a contract running until June 2030, with an option for an additional year.
The 23-year-old winger arrives in Belgium after an impressive spell in Portugal, where he established himself as an important player for AVS. Reports indicate that Cercle Brugge paid around €1.5 million for the Nigerian, beating competition from English Championship side Blackburn Rovers for his signature.
Akinsola began his football journey with Valiant FC in Nigeria before moving to Sweden at 17 to continue his development with Vasalund. He later joined Spanish side Real Valladolid, progressing from the reserve team to the first-team squad and making his La Liga debut against Sevilla in 2023. He moved to AVS initially on loan in 2024 before making the transfer permanent later that year.
His journey is particularly significant for the The Creative Championship (TCC) League, where he featured in its maiden 2020/21 season and emerged as the Assist King. The TCC has also listed Akinsola among its alumni who have progressed to European football. He also had the oppurtunity to play for the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria.
Cercle Brugge technical director Luciano Murchio described Akinsola as a strong one-on-one player capable of operating in several attacking positions, highlighting his pace, versatility and ability to create danger in the final third and during transitions.
The move marks another major milestone in Akinsola's career and provides further evidence of the pathway from Nigeria's grassroots football to the European elite, with the former Valiant FC youngster now set to continue his development in Belgium.
