Nafiu Obalowu Nets First Niger Tornadoes Goal in Kano Defeat

Niger Tornadoes forward Nafiu Obalowu scored his first goal for the club as the Ikon Allah Boys suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat to Kano Pillars in their EuroMatch NPFL Matchday 2 encounter at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.

Obalowu, who joined Niger Tornadoes at the beginning of the 2026/27 season, gave his side renewed hope in the 72nd minutes of the encounter when he calmly finished inside the box after being set up by Rickson Mendos.

The goal marked an important personal milestone for the forward, who opened his account for the Minna-based club in only his second league appearance of the season.

His effort sparked a late revival from the visitors, who had fallen three goals behind after Friday Ubong’s opener and Fabian Nworie’s brace for Kano Pillars.

Niger Tornadoes continued to push forward after Obalowu’s strike and were rewarded again in the 88th minute when Wasiu Jimoh reduced the deficit to 3-2.

Despite sustained pressure in the closing stages, the Ikon Allah Boys could not find the equaliser as Pillars held on for the victory.

The result leaves Niger Tornadoes with three points from their opening two NPFL27 matches, with the club now turning its attention to Matchday 3 against Plateau United in Minna.
