El-Kanemi Warriors Secure impressive 3-0 win over UDIB in CAF Confederation Cup clash

El-Kanemi Warriors made a strong start to their CAF Confederation Cup campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over UDIB of Guinea-Bissau in the first leg of the First Preliminary Round at Ikenne on Sunday.

The Nigerian side dominated much of the opening half but struggled to make their superiority count in the final third. Nnamdi Mejuobi came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 20th minute, firing just above the target.

UDIB also threatened on occasions, with El-Kanemi goalkeeper Nathaniel Usibe producing an important save in the 44th minute to keep the scores level. The teams went into the break goalless.

El-Kanemi eventually found the breakthrough seven minutes after the restart when Mejuobi converted in the 52nd minute to give the Warriors a deserved lead. The forward struck again four minutes later, confidently converting from the penalty spot to complete his brace.

The hosts continued to control proceedings as UDIB struggled to create a meaningful response. Dayo Wahab then sealed the emphatic victory in the 88th minute, following up on a rebound from a spot kick to make it 3-0.

The result gives El-Kanemi Warriors a commanding advantage ahead of the second leg and puts the Nigerian representatives in a strong position to progress to the next stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Elkanemi Warriors team were massively boosted by the presence of Honourable Saina Buba, the Borno state commissioner for youths, sports and poverty alleviation  who led the Borno State delegation to Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne for the game.
