Valiant City FC pacy-winger Gafar Olaniyan joins Sporting Lagos ahead of new NPFL season

Valiant City FC have celebrated another significant milestone in their player development programme following the transfer of highly-rated 18-year-old winger Gafar Olaniyan to Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Sporting Lagos.

The talented left-footed attacker joins the Lagos-based club after an impressive loan spell with Inter Lagos last season, where he played an important role in the club’s promotion to the NPFL.

Olaniyan’s progression from Valiant City FC to the professional stage represents another testament to the club’s commitment to nurturing young talents and providing them with the platform to develop and attract opportunities at the highest level.

Reacting to the move, Valiant City FC CEO, Japhet Zubairu, described Olaniyan as a “pure talent” capable of making a valuable contribution to Sporting Lagos.

“Gafar is a pure talent and we are confident that he will add value to Sporting Lagos. We are proud of his progress and believe this is another step forward in his career,” Zubairu said.

Olaniyan will also reunite with another Valiant City FC product, defender Abdullahi Abdulraqeeb, at Sporting Lagos.

Abdulraqeeb was an integral member of the Valiant side that secured promotion to the NPFL from the Nigeria National League (NNL) and went on to win the NNL Super 8 trophy.

The reunion of Olaniyan and Abdulraqeeb further underlines the growing impact of Valiant City FC’s youth development structure, with the club continuing to produce players capable of progressing to the upper levels of Nigerian football.

For Valiant City FC, Olaniyan’s move is not just another transfer but a reflection of the club’s long-term vision of developing young footballers and creating pathways for them to succeed at the professional level.
