Transfer: Abubakar Garba completes move to Sudanese Club Al Ahly Wad Madani
Nigerian winger Abubakar Garba has completed a move to Sudanese side Al Ahly Wad Madani, with the club confirming his arrival as part of its preparations for the new season.
Garba, who officially joined the Sudanese club on Monday on a two-year deal, teaming up with Coach Aliyu Zubair, who was appointed Technical Adviser of the team last month.
The young winger is a graduate of the Kwara Football Academy and previously featured for Kwara United before moving to Nasarawa United.
According to the club’s media office, Garba’s signing is part of Al Ahly Wad Madani’s efforts to strengthen the squad with young talents, following a specific request from the technical team for the player’s services.
The club also confirmed that Garba is expected to join the team’s training camp in Kigali, Rwanda, as preparations intensify for the new season.
He will be part of the squad preparing for their CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round clash against Kenyan side Tusker.
Garba’s arrival also represents another testament to Coach Aliyu Zubair’s continued commitment to identifying, promoting and providing opportunities for Kwara-born football talents, a philosophy that has followed the coach throughout his managerial career.
Zubair’s connection with Kwara talents dates back to his time as assistant coach at Akwa United, where Kwara-born midfielder Issa Gatta was able to earn an opportunity to join the team.
When Zubair later moved to Wikki Tourists, the relationship with Kwara players continued, with the likes of Issa Gatta, Ahmed Jimoh, Abdulquadri Alege, Kazeem Yekini and Sodiq Abubakar Alamayo also joining the club. The Kwara contingent was further strengthened when Abdullahi Ojifinni and Innocent Christian teamed up with them during Zubair’s subsequent stint at Gombe United.
At El-Kanemi Warriors, Zubair continued the same approach by encouraging and promoting emerging young talents, including Sulaiman Alabi Jojo and Abdulazeez Yusuf, giving them opportunities to develop and compete at a higher level.
His commitment to developing talents has also extended beyond Nigeria. During his time in Egypt, Zubair ensured that Coach Lukman Ijaiya, with whom he had previously worked at the Flying Eagles, joined his technical team as an assistant.
Now at Al Ahly Wad Madani, Abubakar Garba has become the first player to be signed and officially unveiled under Zubair’s leadership, further underlining the coach’s willingness to trust and promote young talents, particularly those from his home state.
Welcoming the Nigerian winger to the club, Al Ahly Wad Madani expressed its hope that Garba would make a significant contribution to the team and help the club achieve its ambitions alongside his new teammates.
For Garba, the move represents another important step in his career and an opportunity to continue his development on the continental stage in Sudan.
For Zubair, however, the transfer is another chapter in a long-standing commitment to creating pathways for young Kwara footballers to access bigger platforms and showcase their talents beyond the state and Nigeria.
