Niger FA, Tornadoes Management meet stakeholders ahead of NPFL season opener

The Niger State Football Association (NSFA) and the management of Niger Tornadoes Football Club have engaged relevant stakeholders ahead of the team’s 2026/2027 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season opener against Enyimba FC of Aba this weekend.

The strategic meeting, convened by the NSFA under the leadership of its Chairman, Comrade Ahmed Yusuf Fresh, was chaired by an NSFA member and acting Chairman of the association’s Organising and Disciplinary Committee, Sani Salawu.

The meeting, held at the conference hall of the Niger Tornadoes FC Secretariat on Friday, brought together officials of Niger Tornadoes, security agencies, supporters and fans clubs, the Red Cross, media practitioners, referees, sanitation personnel and other relevant stakeholders to deliberate on measures for a smooth and successful football season.

Sani Salawu said the engagement was aimed at ensuring the success of Niger Tornadoes throughout the 2026/2027 NPFL campaign, stressing that all stakeholders had a role to play.

The NSFA official appealed to supporters and spectators to exercise restraint and control their emotions during matches, noting that football results could end in victory, defeat or a draw.

According to him, genuine lovers of Niger Tornadoes must avoid any action capable of causing trouble or attracting sanctions against the club, warning that acts of violence and indiscipline could undermine the team’s progress.

He said the NSFA and the club’s management would intensify sensitisation of supporters and other stakeholders on the need to maintain order and comply with league regulations.

The NSFA official also applauded Governor Mohammed Umar Bago for taking the bull by the horns in giving the Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna, a befitting facelift, saying that with the current state of the facility, there was no longer any fear over whether the team would complete its home league matches, as had often been the case in the past.

He added that the state FA was among the happiest stakeholders over the upgrade of the stadium, noting that the facility could now host even international matches.

Speaking, the Team Manager of Niger Tornadoes, Baballe Musa Sam, described the meeting as timely and important, particularly as the club prepares for the new NPFL season.

He said discussions centred on improving fans’ matchday experience at the newly renovated Bako Kontagora Stadium, strengthening security arrangements and ensuring effective collaboration among stakeholders.

Baballe Sam urged supporters and fans to remain patient with the team and give the players maximum support, describing them as the permanent stakeholders and real owners of the club.

He also commended Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for the investment in the renovation and upgrade of the Bako Kontagora Stadium, appealing to spectators and other users to protect the facilities and comply with regulations guiding access to the playing turf.

Also speaking, the Secretary of the club, Hon. Haruna Jibrin Soja, harped on the need for adequate security and orderliness during matches, disclosing that the new management was open to constructive criticism and ideas that would bring progress to the club.

Other participants at the meeting made valuable contributions and pledged to work together towards ensuring a successful season for the Minna based club.
