Kwara Sports Commission inaugurates Committees for 8th State Sports Festival


As preparations intensify for the 8th Kwara State Sports Festival, Kwara State Sports Commission today, Wednesday August 12, 2026, inaugurated the Main Organising Committee (MOC), the Local Organising Committee (LOC), and 12 Sub-Committees, to oversee the successful hosting of the state's flagship sporting event.

Performing the inauguration, the Executive Chairman of the Commission, who is the Chairman of the Main Organising Committee (MOC), Coach Bola Mogaji, said the Committees have been entrusted with the responsibility of planning, coordinating and executing a peaceful, transparent and impactful festival involving all the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

Coach Mogaji charged members of the Committees to hit the ground running by working within the stipulated timeframe and develop realistic budgets that will ensure the successful achievement of the festival's objectives.

He commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his consistent investment in sports development, noting that the approval for the staging of the 8th edition of the festival reflects the Governor's passion and commitment to the advancement of sports in Kwara State.

The Sub-Committees inaugurated include Ceremonial, Publicity and Media, Technical, Security, Accreditation, Accommodation, Feeding, Venues, Power and Transportation Committees.

In his reactions, the Chairman of the LOC, Dr. Steve Olarinoye commended the Governor for providing top class facilities, and Mallam Bola Mogaji for considering him and others, whom he described as worthy individuals, for the opportunity to contribute once again, to the growth of sports in the state. 

Former Director of Sports, Mrs. Serah Bola Ẹsan, who said that the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq loved sports, is helping and working sports in the state and Nigeria, called for proper maintenance of the facilities provided by the Governor. 

The only female Director of Sports in the state so far, equally called for professionalism in the handling of proceedings at the State Sports Commission. 

The Committees were made up of top administrators, whom include Commissioners, serving and former Permanent Secretaries, former and serving Directors, some of whom shared the history of representing the state at the very first National Sports Festival, way back in 1973, and other stakeholders.

The 8th Kwara State Sports Festival is scheduled to hold from August 24th to August 29th, at the George Agbazika Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin, with activities commencing daily, from 9:00 am.
