"I'm not aware"- Plateau United Chairman,Yakmut denies knowledge of new club logo

Plateau United chairman, Mallam Alhassan Yakmut, has denied knowledge of the reported rebranding of the club’s logo, insisting that he will first seek clarification from Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang before commenting on the development.

Yakmut made this known while speaking with journalists before departing Ibadan on Saturday after the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Annual General Meeting (AGM) and draws which was held on Friday.

A new logo reportedly linked to Plateau United had generated reactions in the media, but Yakmut said he was not aware of any official approval for the change.

“That logo issue is still controversial because I’m not aware of it. I don’t want to make any comments until I meet the governor to confirm if he gave clearance,” he said.

The Plateau United chairman stressed the importance of a club maintaining its historical identity, noting that a logo becomes more significant as it reflects the history and identity of the club.

“Because in the tradition of logo, the older, the more historic, the more relevant and the more identical with the club,” Yakmut added.

Meanwhile, Yakmut described the NPFL AGM as a productive platform that gave clubs the opportunity to understand the league’s plans for the new season and review the 2025/26 campaign.

“The NPFL AGM was a very good forum for us to understand the vision of the league for the 2026/2027 season and the review of the 2025/2026, to know what to emphasise in our preparation towards Plateau United winning the league and going to continental,” he said.

Yakmut revealed that Plateau United have been given a mandate by the Plateau State Government to secure continental football this season.

“We have the mandate of the Governor of Plateau to take Plateau United in this season to continental,” he stated.

He also confirmed that the club’s technical adviser, Gbenga Ogunbote, has signed his contract and is already preparing for the new campaign, including the recruitment and selection of players capable of helping the club achieve its continental ambition.

“Our technical adviser, Gbenga Ogunbote, has already signed his contract with us and is already preparing towards the selection of the best legs that will redeem us of not getting the continental ticket,” Yakmut said.

The chairman further appealed to stakeholders and supporters to continue supporting the club, while drawing on Plateau United’s spiritual identity as “prayer warriors.”

“In the hands of God, we will be much better in this season,” he concluded.
