32 teams gear up for Polo Bar six-aside football tournament in Ilorin

The draw for the second edition of the Polo Bar Six-Aside Football Tournament has been conducted with 32 teams set to battle for honours in the eagerly anticipated grassroots competition in Ilorin, Kwara State capital.

The tournament, solely sponsored by the Chief Executive Officer of Polo Bar, Engr. Olabode Jolayemi, will be played at the Royal Palm International School football pitch in the Sango area of Ilorin. The competition is tentatively scheduled to kick off on Thursday, August 6.

Speaking at the well attended draw event on Saturday at Pool Bar at Lincoln Heights in Ilorin, Jolayemi said the tournament was conceived to promote unity and strengthen relationships among football enthusiasts in the state.

According to him, while the maiden edition was organised to celebrate the anniversary of Polo Bar, the positive impact of the competition inspired the decision to sustain it as an annual event.

"We saw the need to continue the tournament because it brings people together and promotes unity. We are committed to making this edition even better than the first, and I want to assure all participating teams that the competition will be conducted in a free and fair manner," he said.

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Ajadi Bamidele Ganiyu, charged all participating teams to maintain discipline throughout the competition.

He urged players and officials to remain composed, respect the rules of the tournament and conduct themselves in a law-abiding manner on and off the pitch.

Also speaking, the tournament's Technical Director, Coach Olalekan Olanrewaju, commended the sponsor for his unwavering commitment to grassroots football development.

He encouraged all participating teams to make the most of the opportunity, describing the tournament as a valuable platform for players to showcase their abilities.

Kwara State Chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Mallam Ayodeji Ismail, also appealed to the teams to uphold the spirit of fair play.

He urged participants to remain law-abiding and use the tournament to display their talents, noting that competitions of such nature play a significant role in discovering and developing football talents while promoting peaceful coexistence within the community.

With 32 teams confirmed for the competition, football fans are expected to witness exciting six-aside action when the tournament gets underway later this week.
