Ismaila Sulaiman Delights in Federation Cup Glory, Hails Coach Kabiru Dogo's leadership
Coach Ismaila Sulaiman has described El-Kanemi Warriors' 2026 President Federation Cup triumph as a special milestone in his career, dedicating much of the success to the mentorship and unwavering support of head coach Kabiru Dogo.
The assistant coach, who celebrated his first major title in his debut season with the Maiduguri-based club, expressed deep appreciation to Dogo, whom he credited for shaping both his coaching career and personal development.
"I am very happy and I thank God for what we have achieved today. I also pray for more success in the future," Sulaiman said after the victory.
Rather than focusing solely on the trophy, Sulaiman reflected on the man behind his growth, revealing that Dogo has been more than just a boss throughout his journey.
"I want to sincerely thank my oga, Coach Kabiru Dogo, for giving me the opportunity to work with him and learn from him. Winning this trophy in my first season is a great achievement, and I owe him a lot for believing in me."
The former ABS FC, Bayelsa United, Lobi Stars and Nasarawa United player disclosed that Dogo's support extends beyond football, saying the experienced tactician sponsored his education and has consistently encouraged him to become a better coach.
"Coach Dogo has been helping me from the beginning, even sending me to coaching school and always encouraging me. Although we are brothers, he doesn't treat me differently. I work under him with the same professionalism as every other member of the coaching crew."
Sulaiman also confirmed that both coaches have now left El-Kanemi Warriors to begin a new chapter with Niger Tornadoes, where they hope to build on the success they achieved in Maiduguri.
"Everyone wants to compete on the continent. Though we are no longer with El-Kanemi Warriors, we are looking forward to achieving that ambition with Niger Tornadoes."
He concluded by encouraging young coaches and players to remain steadfast in their pursuits.
"My advice is to be prayerful, focused and determined. Always celebrate and wish well those whom God has elevated because your own opportunity will surely come."
Sulaiman's heartfelt tribute further highlights the close bond between him and Kabiru Dogo, whose mentorship continues to influence the next generation of Nigerian coaches.
