Dana Cup 2026: Na Royal settle for silver after final defeat to CS Bamako


Nigeria's representatives, NA Royal Football Academy, Ilemona, concluded their remarkable campaign at the 2026 Dana Cup in Hjørring, Denmark, with a silver medal after suffering a 6-1 defeat to Centre Sportif de Bamako (CSB) of Mali in the Boys U18/U19 final on Saturday.

Despite falling short in the title decider, the Ilemona-based academy made history by reaching the Dana Cup final for the first time, capping an outstanding tournament that showcased the immense potential of Nigerian grassroots football on the international stage.

NA Royal FC had entered the final on the back of an impressive unbeaten run, having topped Group 12 with three wins from three matches, scoring 14 goals without conceding. They also displayed remarkable resilience in the quarter final by defeating Guesmone 1-0 and also edged Tanzania's One-Tanzanite FC 4-2 on penalties to secure a place in the championship match.

Although they were unable to overcome a clinical Malian side in the final, the young Nigerians leave Denmark with their heads held high after an inspiring campaign that earned them widespread admiration.

Reacting to the result, the academy described the silver medal finish as a significant achievement and a stepping stone for greater success.

"Not the result we wanted, but playing in the 2026 Dana Cup final for the very first time and going home with the silver medal is a big feat for us. Every game is an opportunity to learn and grow. We take the positives, work on the lessons, and come back stronger next time," the academy stated.

NA Royal FC also expressed gratitude to the HRM Elemona of Ilemona, Oba Nurudeen Alowonle who is also the founder of the club, supporters, fans, and everyone who stood by the team throughout their memorable journey in Denmark.

While the dream of lifting the trophy slipped away, the academy's historic run to the final has further strengthened its reputation as one of Nigeria's emerging grassroots football powerhouses, with the promise of even greater achievements in the years ahead.
