5 interesting facts about today's 2026 President Federation Cup final between El-Kanemi Warriors and Ikorodu City FC

1.A battle between history and a fairytale El-Kanemi Warriors are chasing their fourth President Federation Cup title, having previously won the competition in 1991, 1992, and 2024. Ikorodu City, meanwhile, are playing in their first-ever Federation Cup final, making this the biggest match in the club's history.


2. Experience vs debutants This is El-Kanemi Warriors' second consecutive appearance in the final in three years, while Ikorodu City's remarkable run has seen the Lagos club reach the final for the very first time, setting up a classic clash between seasoned campaigners and ambitious newcomers.9

3.Continental football is at stake The winner will not only lift Nigeria's oldest domestic trophy but will also earn one of Nigeria's ticket to the 2026–27 CAF Confederation Cup, making the final one of the most valuable matches of the season. Ikorodu has never tasted Continental football while Elkanemi's last apperance was in 2024.

4 Even though Elkanemi Warriors has won the Federation Cup thrice, Kabiru Dogo eyes his first major silverware as an elite Coach while Bright Ozegbabe of Ikorodu also seeks to make history of winning his club first major trophy.

5.Asaba hosts another major football spectacle The final takes place at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, a venue that has become one of Nigeria's preferred hosts for major football events. The stadium most recently hosted the 2018 and 2023 editions.
