Bello Mubarak Celebrates Gov. AbdulRazaq Seven Years In Office with Chess Championship


Malik Idris and Oyinkansola Akinyemi emerged champions in the male and female categories respectively at a chess tournament organised by chess enthusiast and former aide to the Kwara State Governor, Mallam Bello Mubarak Salau, in collaboration with the Kwara State Chess Association to commemorate seven years of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's administration.

At the end of the keenly contested tournament, sponsor of the competition, Bello Mubarak, and Adeniyin Favour secured second and third positions respectively in the male category. In the female category, Sadiq Abidat Temitope and Al-Imam Kudirat Olamide finished second and third respectively, while Mohammed Olarewaju emerged as the best junior player.

Speaking after the event, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Mogaji, praised the organisers and sponsors for staging the tournament in recognition of the achievements of Governor AbdulRazaq in sports and youth development.

He assured chess players in the state of the commission’s commitment to constructing a befitting chess pavilion and creating opportunities for athletes to participate in national competitions.

Earlier, the sponsor of the tournament, Mallam Bello Mubarak Salau, said the competition was organised to appreciate Governor AbdulRazaq’s efforts and unwavering support in transforming the sports sector over the past seven years.

According to him, the governor’s investments in sports infrastructure and facility upgrades have significantly contributed to the growth of sports in the state and demonstrated a clear commitment to making Kwara a hub for sports development.

Also speaking, the Patron of the Nigeria Chess Family, Dr. Bode Durotoye, described the competition as a platform for discovering and nurturing young talents in Kwara State. He commended the organisers and the Kwara State Chess Association for successfully hosting the event.

As part of his support for the development of chess in the state, Bello Mubarak donated chess boards to the Kwara State Sports Commission.

The tournament attracted nearly 100 players and chess enthusiasts from across the state, who showcased their strategic abilities in a highly competitive atmosphere.
