Sporting Lagos Defender Abdulraqeeb Dedicates NNL Triumph To Father, Manager As NPFL Dream Unfolds


Sporting Lagos defender Abdullahi Abdulraqeeb has described winning the Nigeria National League (NNL) title with his club as a dream come true, while dedicating the achievement to his father and manager, Mr Japhet Zubair.

The young defender spoke with journalists after Sporting Lagos emerged champions at the NNL Super Four tournament in Ikenne.

Abdulraqeeb said the triumph marked a major milestone in his football career and expressed optimism about achieving greater success in the future.

“It’s a dream come true for me and the team. Right from the beginning of this football journey, I had dreams and this is one of them. From here, it is to a higher place,” he said.

The Baruten-born defender also revealed that Sporting Lagos are already setting their sights on conquering the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) next season following their successful return to the top flight.

“We are looking forward to next season to win the league, that is the target,” he added.

Abdulraqeeb further credited his parents for their unwavering support throughout his football journey, noting that their encouragement kept him motivated during difficult moments.

According to him, the NNL triumph is dedicated to his father and his manager, Mr Japhet Zubair, for their sacrifices and belief in his career.


“What keeps me going is the support from my parents. They pushed me to this level and I had to pay them back. I dedicate this achievement to my dad and my manager, Mr Japhet Zubair,” he stated

Speaking to Journalists who came from Kwara to cover the NNL super four, Abdulraqeeb's father, Abdullahi Mao Mohammed, he commended the team for their tactical approach and impressive especially against Doma United where they win 4-0 and tasked them not to relent.

Mao who also followed the super four online on the Sportslight youtube page also described his son as an intelligent and utility player. He charged him to remain focused saying the sky is the limit to what he can achieve.

The man who also reflects on his hey days while playing for the university football team hopes that one day his son will play for Nigeria national team.
