NPFL: Kwara FA praises Lagos State Sports Commission, FA over support for Harmony Boys
The Kwara State Football Association has commended the Lagos State Sports Commission and the Lagos State Football Association for their immense support and hospitality towards Kwara United Football Club during the club’s temporary relocation to Lagos for home matches in the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Kwara State FA, Alhaji Idris Abdullahi Musa Thuraya, the association specifically lauded the leadership of the Lagos State FA under Alhaji Gafar Liameed, alongside the FA Secretary and other members of the board, for creating a conducive atmosphere for the Harmony Boys throughout their stay in Lagos.
The Kwara FA also appreciated the Senior Special Assistant on Sports Development to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Mr. Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye, for his unwavering support and encouragement towards the team.
According to the statement, Lagos football fans and supporters, as well as Kwarans resident in Lagos and those who consistently traveled from Ilorin to cheer the team during matchdays at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, played a vital role in helping the club overcome difficult moments in the season.
Kwara United played five crucial matches at the historic Mobolaji Johnson Arena, recording impressive results that helped ease relegation fears.
The Harmony Boys drew only one of those fixtures, against Rangers International FC, before going on a remarkable run of victories over Nasarawa United, El-Kanemi Warriors, Barau FC, and Enyimba FC.
The impressive resurgence has now lifted Kwara United F.C. to 11th position on the NPFL table ahead of the final game of the season.
The association further extended gratitude to Kwarans both at home and in the diaspora for standing firmly behind the club since its banishment from Ilorin, noting that the unity, encouragement, and financial support received from stakeholders and supporters contributed significantly to the team’s improved performances.
“With the support shown by everyone, the players, and officials felt at home despite playing away from Ilorin. The encouragement from Kwarans and football lovers in Lagos gave the team the confidence to fight through difficult moments,” the statement added.
Kwara United will conclude their campaign with an away fixture against already relegated Bayelsa United in Yenagoa, as the club aims to finish the season on a strong note.
