Highlanders Academy Unveiling in Igbaja to Feature Football Tournament, Aerobics Session, Champions League Final Special Show

A new chapter in grassroots football development in Kwara State is set to begin as Highlanders Academy prepares for the official unveiling of its football academy on May 30, 2026, in Igbaja, Kwara State.

The event, organised by Folly Sports & Consultant Ltd under the leadership astute sports administrator ,Abubakar Olasunkanmi Quadri,  is expected to bring together football enthusiasts, young talents, community stakeholders, and sports lovers for a day dedicated to sports development and youth engagement.

According to the organisers, the unveiling ceremony will commence at 2pm and will also feature a series of sporting and recreational activities designed to promote fitness, entertainment, and community participation during the Ileya Festival celebration.

Among the major highlights of the programme is an Aerobics Exercise session scheduled for the second day of the Ileya Festival at 7am. A football tournament will also take place from the second to the fourth day of the festival, running daily between 10am and 4pm.

In addition, football fans will enjoy a special UEFA Champions League final live viewing experience on May 30, 2026, by 2pm as part of the celebration.

The organisers noted that the initiative is aimed at discovering and nurturing young football talents while creating opportunities for youth empowerment through sports.

Highlanders Academy is expected to serve as a platform for aspiring footballers to develop their skills and pursue professional opportunities within and beyond Nigeria.
Interested sponsors and supporters have also been encouraged to partner with the initiative to ensure the successful growth of the academy and its programmes.

The organisers have however called on sons and daughters of Igbaja to support the project in cash and kind

Meet Ilorin-born Soliu Ajia Yakubu,Flying Eagles Goalkeeper for AFCON  An Ilorin-born goalkeeper, Soliu Ajia Yakubu, will wear the Nigerian badge at the upcoming U20 AFCON tournament in Egypt. The former Gidado Football Academy player was part of the squad listed for the AFCON final list by Coach Aliyu Zubairu. Soliu currently ply his trade in Serbian league with FK Novia Pazar.
