Veteran coach Abdullahi Biffo has commended the Nigeria National League [NNL] management for raising the bar with a historic Super 4 championship in Ikenne, describing the competition as competitive, electrifying, and a true test for teams preparing for the Nigeria Premier Football League [NPFL].
The former national team assistant coach, who was at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne Ogun State on matchday 2 to watch Inter Lagos edge Rancher Bees 1-0, said the standard of organization has changed the narrative around the NNL’s end-of-season playoff.
“This Super 4 is comparative and electrifying. The intensity has made teams more cautious and has denied them the chance to perform below expectations,” Biffo told reporters after the game. “I expected more from the teams, but I understand their eagerness to be crowned champions this 2025/2026 season.”
Inter Lagos’ win secured them a place in the final against Sporting Lagos, who have already booked their spot with six points from two matches and a commanding 4-0 goal margin following their victory over Doma FC.
Biffo, drawing from years of experience in Nigeria’s domestic league, urged the participating clubs to use the Super 4 as a platform to identify areas for improvement ahead of the NPFL campaign.
“This tournament has given the teams an opportunity to showcase themselves. By now, they should know where to strengthen and recruit quality players who can help them survive in the apex league,” he said.
“I will also advise the coaches to be better prepared. This is no longer the NNL they are familiar with. The NPFL is for teams that are ready to face its challenges head-on.”
The Super 4 continues at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, with Sporting Lagos and Inter Lagos set to clash in the final for the 2025/2026 NNL title and promotion to the NPFL.
