Abaya Musa backs Kwara United to overcome Enyimba, urges team to stay focused

Former Kwara United defender, Abaya Musa, has expressed confidence in the club’s ability to overcome Enyimba FC in their crucial fixture, describing the Ilorin-based side as a football tradition that will continue to thrive regardless of challenges.

Speaking ahead of the important encounter to journalists in Ikenne at the ongoing NNL Super four, the former central defender stated that Kwara United remains a pride of the people of Kwara State and any individual entrusted with leading the club is handling a long-standing football heritage.

“I used to tell people that Kwara United is a process and a tradition. Anything that is a process, whether you like it or not, it will keep moving. Whether it crumbles or wobbles, it has to move,” Abaya Musa said.

“Anyone who has the opportunity to lead the team is leading a tradition that Kwarans are very proud to be associated with.”

The former defender also dismissed suggestions that defeating Enyimba is an unusual feat, insisting that Kwara United had recorded such victories even during his playing days.

“It is not today that we have always been beating Enyimba. During our time, we did it and recently it has happened again,” he added.

Abaya Musa described the upcoming Sunday clash as a decisive game for the club’s progress, urging players and officials to remain united and focused.

“The Sunday game is very crucial because we just need that game to move on. I think we just need to stay focused, work with the same mind and victory will be ours,” he stated.

He further advised the club’s management to continue supporting the players adequately in order to achieve success.

“The management should also do their assignment very well and take care of the boys. That is the advice I have and I believe we will carry the day by the special grace of God,” he concluded.

Widely regarded as one of the strongest defenders of his generation, Abaya Musa maintained that discipline, intelligence and commitment were key factors behind the success of players during his era.

The former centre-back played for several notable clubs including Folly Babes, Manchester United, Pako FC, Crown FC, Katsina United, Shooting Stars SC, OUK FC, Enyimba FC and also had a stint with S.S. Lazio before returning to Nigeria to finish his career with Kwara United.
