Kwara Sports Festival: Flag Hoisting, Torch of Unity Movement Hold Friday In Ilorin

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 8th Kwara State Sports Festival has announced the hoisting of the 16 Local Government Area flags and the movement of the Torch of Unity ahead of the commencement of the festival.

According to an internal memo signed by the Chairman of the LOC, Dr Steve Olarinoye, the ceremony will take place on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the entrance of the Indoor Sports Hall, George Agbazika Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

The event is scheduled to commence at 4:00 p.m.

The ceremony is expected to formally usher in activities for the 8th Kwara State Sports Festival, which will bring together athletes representing the 16 Local Government Areas of the state. The festival is scheduled to run from August 21 to 29, 2026, in Ilorin.

The hoisting of the local government flags and movement of the Torch of Unity are expected to symbolise unity, togetherness and the spirit of sportsmanship among the participating councils and athletes.

The festival will feature athletes competing across various sporting events, with organisers saying it is aimed at promoting grassroots sports development, identifying talents and strengthening unity among the people of Kwara State.
