Niger State’s Elisha Kwange saw his impressive run to the final come to an end after a hard fought defeat to Nigeria’s top rated national player, Ogunsakin Seyi, in a thrilling three set encounter at the ITF World Tennis Tour Championship.

In the opening set, the vastly experienced Ogunsakin stamped his authority on the contest, dictating play with precision and composure to take the set 6–1. His strong serves and tactical court coverage gave him an early advantage, putting Kwange under intense pressure.

However, the second set witnessed a remarkable resurgence from Elisha Kwange. Displaying resilience and determination, the Niger State youngster elevated his game, matching his opponent shot for shot. His improved returns and confident baseline play earned him a 6–3 victory, leveling the match and setting up a decisive third set.

The final set proved to be a fierce battle of skill and strategy. Kwange showed early promise, taking the lead at 2–1 and 3–2, raising hopes of an upset. But Ogunsakin’s experience ultimately proved decisive, as he capitalized on crucial break points and regained control of the match to clinch the set 6–3 and seal victory.

Despite the loss, Kwange’s performance has drawn widespread commendation. His composure, fighting spirit, and technical growth throughout the tournament underscored his rising status in Nigerian tennis and affirmed his potential on the international stage.

Equally noteworthy were the commendable outings of Destiny Tomizayi, Yahuza Bello, and Emmanuella Kwange at the ITF World Tennis Tour Championship. Their collective performances reflect the steady rise of Niger State in both national and international tennis circles, signaling what many observers now describe as a genuine tennis revolution in the state.

The recent surge in performance has been widely attributed to the renewed drive and strategic support introduced by the Chairman of the Niger State Sports Commission (NSSC), Hon. Danjuma Abdul Masu. His commitment to encouraging and sponsoring sporting associations under the Commission has provided athletes with opportunities to compete at higher levels and gain invaluable exposure.

Members of the Niger State Tennis Association and the athletes have expressed deep appreciation for the Chairman’s unwavering support, noting that the sponsorship and institutional backing have significantly boosted morale and competitiveness within the team.

Participation in the ITF World Tennis Tour Championship marks the first international outing for the team under the current leadership of the Commission, a milestone that stakeholders describe as historic and transformative for tennis development in the state.

Presently, Elisha Kwange, Yahuza Bello, Destiny Tomizayi, and Emmanuella Kwange are ranked among active and competitive junior players on the international circuit, a development that further reinforces Niger State’s growing reputation as a nurturing ground for emerging tennis talents.
