Injector Football Club have emerged champions of the 3rd edition of the Chris Olatunji Charity Cup after defeating Kzeez FA 5-4 on penalties, following a goalless draw in regulation time.
The keenly contested final, held on Sunday at the Kwara Football Academy Pitch, showcased grit, passion, and determination from both sides, keeping the crowd on the edge of their seats throughout the encounter.
It was the youthful Kzeez FA who started brighter, showing attacking intent and composure in the early stages of the game. However, the experienced Injector FC gradually settled into the match, attempting to control possession and create chances from midfield.
Despite several opportunities from both ends, neither side could break the deadlock before the referee signaled the end of normal time. The game was eventually decided via penalty shootout, where Injector FC converted all their spot kicks to clinch the title.
The newly crowned champions went home with a ₦400,000 cash prize, and the semifinalists were also presented branded jerseys, while individual awards were also presented, including Best Goalkeeper, Best Dressed Coach, Highest Goal Scorer and others.
In a gesture of appreciation to fans, 15 randomly selected spectators received ₦5,000 each, while 10 others went home with branded jerseys.
Furthermore, six journalists who were outstanding in promoting the tournament via media their platforms were also rewarded.
Speaking after the event, Coach Bashir Abolarinwa, the brain behind the competition, explained that the Charity Cup was created to promote grassroots football and foster unity through sports.
The sponsor, Dr. Chris Olatunji, who also present, commended all participating teams for their sportsmanship, emphasizing that the tournament was designed to engage the youth and steer them away from social vices.
Among the dignitaries present were Kwara State Deputy Governor, Mr. Kayode Alabi, represented by Alhaji Umar, Executive Chairman Kwara Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, former Kwara United Coach, Tunde Sanni, and several other notable personalities.
