Hunting the Next Osimhen: European Scouts Storm Abeokuta for ASM Tournament
Top European scouts and FIFA-licensed agents are set to storm the Gateway City from November 18 to 20, 2025, for the ASM International Football Tournament, a high-profile scouting programme aimed at discovering the next generation of Nigerian football stars.
Organised by Victor Ogunsanya (USA) Andrew Uwe (Germany), and Ayo Adeniran (Austria), the three-day football showcase will bring together elite clubs, academies, and pre-scouted players to compete before international scouts from Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic , Slovenia, and the United States.
Among the clubs confirmed for the event are Box 2 Box FC, 36 Lion FC Lagos, SGFC Athletics, and Magic Stars.
The competition is designed to give young, talented players a direct pathway to professional opportunities abroad.
The programme kicks off on Day 1 (November 18) with a pre-scouting screening featuring six combined squads made up of 60 players from 14 clubs. Matches will begin at 8:00 a.m. and continue through late morning. From this pool, only 24 standout players will advance to the next round and be divided into Group A and Group B.
Group A: ASM Selected 2, 36 Lions, SGFC Athletics
Group B: ASM Selected 1, Box 2 Box, Magic Stars
On Day 2 (November 19), the invited clubs will face off in competitive fixtures beginning at 8:00 a.m., while the final day, Day 3 (November 20) has been tagged Prime Time, with foreign scouts expected to make final player selections and schedule the last match of the event.
The ASM International Football Tournament is designed to give scouts a closer look at Nigeria’s abundant football talent. The organisers say their mission is to identify and nurture future stars capable of making the leap to Europe, following in the footsteps of Super Eagles forwards Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface, who both rose from local academies to international stardom.
All matches will take place at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.
