Kwara FA Chairman Meets SWAN, Rallies Support for Kwara United Ahead President Federation Cup Final
With the countdown underway to the 2025 President Federation Cup final, Chairman of the Kwara State Football Association, Mallam Idris Musa Thuraya, has met with members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Kwara State Chapter, to discuss preparations and media support for Kwara United’s clash with Abakaliki FC.
The highly anticipated final will hold on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos — marking the first time in history that Kwara United will be playing in the final of the national cup competition.
During the interface, Mallam Thuraya described the feat as monumental for Kwara football and commended the players, coaches, and supporters for their unwavering commitment. He stressed that the Football Association is doing everything within its capacity to ensure the team gets the needed support to bring the trophy home.
"Kwara has never gotten to this stage before. On our part at the FA, we have been everywhere, working tirelessly to ensure the right structures and the best people are in place to help Kwara United clinch the victory,” he said.
The FA Chairman emphasized the urgent need for sponsorship, stating that the team’s preparation and logistics require financial backing beyond what the government alone can provide.
"We must augment government efforts. We are calling on all stakeholders political office holders, business leaders, and football supporters to support this project. Kwara United is not just representing a club, they are carrying the pride of the entire state,” he added.
Mallam Thuraya outlined several key steps necessary for a successful outing in Lagos, including:
The FA Chairman emphasized the urgent need for sponsorship, noting that government alone cannot bear the financial burden. He called on corporate bodies, private individuals, and well-meaning Kwarans to support the campaign by providing funds, logistics, and morale-boosting resources.
"We must augment the government’s efforts. We need to mobilize supporters and stakeholders who have an interest in football to accompany the team to Lagos. It is also important to move media professionals to Lagos to give this achievement the publicity it deserves,” Thuraya added.
He advised the management of Kwara United to ensure that only fit and in-form players are selected for the crucial match. He also recommended that the team travel to Lagos at least three days ahead of the match to properly acclimatize to the environment and prepare adequately.
Mallam Thuraya further appealed to sponsors to support the branding of the team’s kits, ensuring Kwara United is well-represented in quality attire that reflects professionalism and pride.
"We urge all political office holders in Kwara State to be part of this project. This is not just about football — it is about our identity, our pride, and our future. Let us stand together and support this great cause,” he concluded.
With high hopes and intensified preparations, Kwara United is on the brink of making history and the call is clear: all hands must be on deck.
