Akor Adams given back to his root through football empowerment scheme

Akor Jarome Adams is a Nigeria international footballer who currently play in the Spanish Laliga for Sevilla FC. He was brought up in Minna, and he is an alumni of Federal Government College (FGC), Minna.

Akor Adams started his grassroot football career in Net Shakers FC, Tungan Goro. He later joined Jamba Football Academy in Kaduna, from where he joined Sogndal FC of Norway, and later got a national call to join the Nigeria Under 20 team that played the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland. Akor appeared in two matches during the tournament.

He later moved to Lillestrom SK in the same Norway. He also played for Montpellier FC in the French league before now settling as a point man for Sevilla FC.

Haven't achieved this successful journey in his football career, Akor Adams thought it wise to look back to how he started by sponsoring a football competition tagged Akor Football Empowerment Scheme (AFES) 2025, under his charity foundation, Hope Alive Initiative.

Akor elder brother who is the coordinator of the tournament, Abogidi Abba Adamu in an interview said it was fulfilling when an individual decided to give back to the society who molded him to be who he is.

He observed that the unity football brings cannot be compared to anything, and that as a brother to Akor Adams they are happy that a youth like him could think of his community where he started his grassroot football career.

"Akor is a youth from our locality, he is my brother. He now play as a pointed man in Sevilla Football Club. We are happy that from his own discretion decided to embrace something that will bring people together to enjoy the banter, the thrills and fun football bring by sponsoring Akor Football Empowerment Scheme in Net Shakers (Technical school) Field, here in Tungan-goro community," stated Akor elder brother.

He described the footballer as a generous and accommodating young man that has singlehandedly transform the Net Shakers field into one of the best fields in Minna metropolis 

According to the tournament Coordinator, 15 teams in Minna and its environs registered for the football tournament which kicked off on 17th May, 2025 and is currently in the quarter final stage.

He observed that the competition is a testament to what the youths can do for themselves if given the opportunity, adding that the has enabled the participating youths to showcase their hidden skills and talents to the entire world as matches were been streamed and circulated in all social media handles.

Abba Adamu revealed that the competition is not a winner takes all, but an event where every team that participated in the tournament is a beneficiary. He said the first position will go home with ₦1m, second position ₦500,000, while the third position will go home with ₦300,000 respectively.

He added that all the teams that participated were given a set of jersey, and that in each game the man of the match goes home with ₦10,000, while at the end of the tournament, the best player, best goalkeeper, and top goal scorer of the tournament will get ₦50,000 each.

While appreciating Akor Adams for the gesture, Abba Adamu boasted that no foodbller that have excelled from Minna has ever done to his community what Akor has done to Tungan Goro community, and as such deserves their accolades.

"We the Tungan-goro youths on behalf of the community want to express our sincere appreciation to our brother for his support so far to the community, individuals, and for this initiative which he introduced towards fostering unity among us. As you know, football doesn't discriminate against tribe, religion or ethnicity," he added.
