Turaki of Ilorin Football Tournament lights up Kwara Community

Plans have been concluded to host a thrilling football competition in honour of Senator Saliu Mustapha,  the lawmaker representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, who also doubles as the Turaki Ngeri of Ilorin Emirate.

The tournament, which is tagged "Turaki Cup 2025," is organised by the Ojagboro Youth Development Association in appreciation of Senator Mustapha’s contributions to the development of the community.

According to the organisers, "The tournament offers a unique opportunity for aspiring footballers to demonstrate their abilities, gain competitive experience, and nurture their passion for the game.

It also added that "it will also provide scouts and coaches a chance to identify promising players who could excel in the sport with the right guidance."

The organisers also expressed belief that the competition will unite the community and also help discover and develop the next generation of football stars.

Senator Mustapha is widely admired for his commitment and dedication to the development of the community. His impacts on grassroots sports development, including sponsorship of several football competitions, supports for grassroots teams, and athletes have all endeared him to sports men and women.

The tournament, which commenced on Wednesday,  May 14, 2025, is being held at Government Day Secondary School, Ilorin.

While Omo-Olope FC played a goalless draw with Focus FC in the opener on Wednesday, Kokobite FC and Jojo FC will be doing battles on Thursday at the same venue by 4:30pm.

A total number of 12 teams are participating in the tournament.
