Victory against Egypt will boost our confidence ahead of AFCON-Coach Aliyu Zubairu 


The Head Coach of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles has reacted to the 2-1 victory secured over their Egyptian counterparts in a friendly match on Tuesday evening at Cairo International Stadium. 

The Flying Eagles team defeated the Young Pharaohs in the game, which serves as part of the build-up for the U20 AFCON proper coming up in Egypt. 

A 10th minute strike from Kparobo Arierhi and a spot kick scored by Precious Benjamin ensured that the Aliyu Zubairu-led boys edge the AFCON host team in the game played less than 48 hours the Nigerian delegation touched down in Cairo.

Speaking about the game, Coach Aliyu Zubairu noted that the encounter serves as evaluation for the team ahead of the AFCON proper.

While noting that the result of the game,although positive doesn't make any difference, he pointed out that it will also improve the confidence of the team psychologically.

He said, "I don't think the result makes any difference. It's just for evaluation. The  positive we take from the game are enormous and is going to guide us to improve on the deficiency observed. "

The gaffer also noted that the boys are adapting to the weather in Egypt very fast as they approach the competition proper.

Drawn in Group B of the tournament,  Nigeria's first match in the AFCON is against Tunisia on Thursday next week, before further games against Morroco and Kenya.
