KDG Commends Coach Oniye, others for Honoring Coach Aliyu Zubairu with Kiddies Tournament


The Kwara Development Group (KDG), under the leadership of its president, Olaide Ahli, has expressed profound appreciation to Coach Mohammed Oniye for his outstanding initiative in organizing a Kiddies Football Tournament to celebrate the achievements of Coach Aliyu Zubairu.

Coach Oniye, the Proprietor of Makamz Academy and Head Coach of House of Prayers Football Club, spearheaded the tournament to recognize Coach Zubairu’s remarkable accomplishments, including winning the Aiteo Cup, promoting El-Kanemi Warriors to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) from the Nigeria National League (NNL), securing victory for Nigeria in the Under-20 WAFU Cup, and earning a ticket to the African Nations Cup for the team as Head Coach.

The tournament, which kicked off on January 2 and concluded on January 12, 2025, was held at the Kwara Football Academy. It featured 20 football academies divided into four groups:

The grand finale saw Barca Kiddies emerge as champions, defeating Dickalo Academy 2-0 to lift the trophy.

KDG acknowledged the immense contributions of individuals and organizations who supported the tournament physically and financially. Among those recognized were Mr. Abdullahi Agali, Personal Assistant to Coach Aliyu Zubairu; Yemi Sodiq, Secretary of the Kwara Kiddies League; Coach Lookman Ijaiya, Assistant Coach of the Nigerian Flying Eagles; Architect Oluwabunmi Dickalo, CEO of Dickalo Sports, and many others.

The event was graced by notable dignitaries, including:

Their presence further highlighted the importance of honoring grassroots initiatives and celebrating excellence within Kwara State’s football community.

Speaking on the importance of celebrating achievements, KDG President Olaide Ahli encouraged others to emulate Coach Oniye's initiative, stating, “Celebrate others so that you will also be celebrated one day.”

The group concluded by congratulating Coach Aliyu Zubairu on his continued success, expressing confidence that his hard work and dedication will take him to greater heights.

This recognition of both Coach Oniye and Coach Zubairu underscores KDG’s commitment to fostering a culture of appreciation and excellence in the sports community.

Maiduguri-born Tahur Maigana makes Flying Eagles AFCON squad One of the talents to look out for in the upcoming U20 AFCON is Tahir Maigana The young player who was born and bred in Maiduguri, Borno State, is plying his trade with Wireless Football Club based in Abuja, Nigeria.  The natural left footer is a genius and will wow the spectators during the tournament. Recall that Coach Aliyu Zubairu, the Technical Adviser of Elkanemi Warriors of Maiduguri will lead the U20 team to the AFCON in Egypt.
