Regarded as one of the best players to have represented  the University of Ilorin Men's football team, Ogungbenro Mustapha has now taken his career to a next level by joining the Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Ilorin FC ahead of the new NNL season.

Ogungbenro, who also had stints with Abraysports FC, expressed his delight on joining his new side.

Zico Jr. as he's fondly called played a key role in Unilorin Warriors' recent achievements in football.

From winning gold medal in the JAMB football competition in 2019 to winning  the third place of the Higher Institutions Footbll League(HiFL) in the same year, clinched NUGA Gold medal in Football event in 2022 and won the 2024 Emir of Ilorin Cup, Ogungbenro has successfully etched his name in the history book of the Unilorin.

At Abraysports FC, He was part of the team that won the AMAPRO football championship back to back in 2023 and 2024. He also played a key role in their 2024 NLO campaign where the club narrowly missed out of the NNL promotion ticket after losing 2-1 to Igbajo United FC in the playoff.

Speaking on his new home, the versatile attacker said "ABS FC is a new chapter and it’s a great opportunity for me to contribute to the team"
He noted that joining ABS FC is a big move, and it’s a great chance to set ambitious goals.

"As a left winger, my aim is to make a significant impact by contributing to goals and assists, building strong chemistry with the teammates, and helping the team achieve success in the league"

While he believes that transferring to ABS FC could be a pivotal step in my career, he stressed that it’s a chance to test himself  in a new environment, potentially grow as a player, and showcase his talent on a larger stage.

Ogungbenro who recently won the Offa preseason tournament with ABS FC also believes his new team could elevate his profile and open doors to further opportunities, both domestically and internationally.

According to a scout report on Zico Jr., he is fondly admired for scoring important goals and making important contributions to team's success. The one that readily  comes to mind was how he scored the lone goal and the winner for Unilorin Warriors against ABS FC in the final of Emir Cup recently.

A vibrant and pacy attacker, Ogungbenro's endearing qualities also include ability to get ball past markers in one versus one situation, ability to do take ons, make dangerous run ins and also play together with his teammates
