Southwest Zonal Elimination: Osun Facilities Checked and Approved to Host Games

Osun State is set to host the Southwest Zonal Elimination of National Youth Games at Four Venues namely, Osogbo City Stadium, Osogbo Grammar School, Ataoja School of Science and Fountain University.

This was decided today at the facilities check which was conducted by the Zonal Coordinator, Mrs Evelyn Fabunmi, the HR Zonal Office, Mr Seun Olowe and General Managers/Directors from the six Southwest states comprising of Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo State.

A total of eleven sports would be conducted at the Southwest Zonal Elimination namely: Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Beach Volleyball, Hockey, Cricket, Handball, Abula, Rugby, Baseball and Softball.

Osun State would be participating in nine events. Eight of the Nine games with both male and female teams such as football, basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball, hockey, handball, baseball and softball while only the male team would participate in cricket.

All the athletes from all the six Southwest states are expected stay at Baptist Girls High School, Osogbo where accommodation has been provided for them for the duration of the elimination.

In his remarks, the General Manager of Osun State Sports Council, Mr Rotimi Dunmoye thanked the Zonal Director and General Managers/Directors for counting Osun State worthy to host the elimination phase of the National Youth Games while promising that the state would do it's best to have a wonderful hosting. He also thanked the state government under the leadership of Governor for providing the enabling environment for sports to thrive.

Present at the event to receive the visitors were the Director Sports, Coaching and Training Osun State Sports Council, Mr Ademola Daini, the Director of Sports, Osun State Ministry of Sports, Mr Layi Adesiyan, the Director Sports Organization, Mrs Ronke Ogunbanwo among others.

Barring any late change in date, the southwest Zonal Elimination is scheduled to hold from 12th to 14th August, 2024
