Coach Aliyu Zubair optimistic ahead of CAF Confederation reverse fixture

The first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup clash between El-Kanemi Warriors FC of Nigeria and Dadje FC of Benin Republic ended in a dramatic 1-1 draw yesterday at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, Ogun State. Dadje FC stunned the crowd by taking the lead in the 28th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to put the visitors ahead.

Despite dominating possession, El-Kanemi Warriors struggled to break through the well-organized Dadje defense, with their finishing letting them down. Dadje FC then resorted to time-wasting tactics to manage the game, frustrating the home side, who went into the break trailing by a single goal.

In the second half, El-Kanemi Warriors intensified their attacks, piling pressure on Dadje with aggressive, high-tempo play. However, their efforts were continuously thwarted by the resolute defense of the Benin Republic team. The introduction of substitutes Gimba Ajiji and Jacob Jonathan late in the match added a spark to El-Kanemi's play, and it was Ajiji who found the back of the net with a crucial header in the 94th minute, salvaging a 1-1 draw for the home side.

Speaking after the match, El-Kanemi Warriors' Technical Adviser, Aliyu Zubairu, admitted that his side had struggled to convert their chances but remained confident of overturning the result in the return leg. "The boys weren't calm enough in front of goal today, but I have full faith in their ability to deliver in the second leg," he stated. "We will go to Benin Republic and secure a decisive victory, God willing."

Coach Zubairu urged Warriors fans to remain patient and optimistic. "If we can draw here, there's no reason why we can't win on their turf," he said. "I know our supporters expected more from us today, but rest assured, we will turn the tide in the next game by God's grace."

With the return leg looming, El-Kanemi Warriors will be aiming to sharpen their attack and bring home a much-needed victory to advance in the tournament.
