FASU Students Representatives Council reinstates suspended NEC President,Saheed Abiodun
The Leadership of the Senate arm of the Federation of Ayedire Students' Union, aegis led by Dist. Sen. ADEYEMO Kehinde Nafiu, Senate President of the 2024 Parliamentary session.
Held her fifth which happened to be the fourth virtual Senate sitting On Friday 31st May, 2024.
The Senate sitting shapes its nest exactly 4:05pm and the President of the Senate addresses the house by communicating the guidelines of the sitting.
Having communicated the by-laws guiding the sitting he apologized to the general Public for the delay of the sitting session as the senators available have not made quorum and further extended the sitting to 4:30pm.
By exactly 4:57 when quorums had been made he instructed the Senate Registrar to communicate the sitting agendas, Upon the communication individual opening Prayer was observed.
Upon the Opening Prayer The citation of the new adopted national anthem follows and a video was sent to the virtual sitting medium to aid members of perfect citation of it under the influence of two minutes.
The welcome address follows and the Senate President welcomes all FASUITES for gracing the Senate sitting as an observer.
Senators are instructed to take attendance with their favorite emoji to ascertain quorum has been made whom twelve of her members signifies out of the 17 members that made up the Senate chamber as demand in as demand in the chapter 3, Article 6, rule 5 of the FASU Sacrosanct Constitution.
The Senators were further instructed to introduce themselves with their names and constituency and their prospective position held in the house.
Motion for adoption of the sitting agenda was called for and Senate Oloyede Sukurat Opeyemi from Ileogbo constituency raised motion for adoption of the sitting agenda and Sen. Tiamiyu Abdulquadri Akofe Seconded it.
The Senate President asked the Registrars if the Then Acting President received an official invitation for the sitting and the Registrar replied Yes.
The President further said that It will be recalled some days back the Senate chamber gave directives that the proposed quiz competition should be suspended due to some irregularities notice and as reported by his fellow Executives to the Senate chamber and further asked if the Senate Registrar received any resignation letter from the acting President as he promised earlier in the general group? And she further said no letter was received from the Senate chamber for his resignation.
The Preside of the Senate President addresses the sitting that the Acting President having disrespected the Senate chamber by going ahead to host a program he was given directives not to host, what punishment should be levelled against him.
Sen. Abobarin Olaleken from Olupona constituency suggested he should write an apology to the Senate chamber within 24hours. While Sen. Tiamiyu Abdulquadri Akofe called for his suspension for disrespecting the Senate chamber.
The Senate President suggests the suggestions should be put into motion which Sen. Abobarin Olaleken puts his suggestion into motion. The Congress members raised hands to second him but the Senate President declined their request that only a serving Senator can raise, second or counter a motion.
Sen. ADEYEMO Khadijat Adeola Seconded the motion.
Any Counter motion was asked by the Senate President and none of the Senators in attendance countered the motion which makes the writing of the apology letter within 24 hours to the Senate chamber final resolution.
The President of the Senate said by his time it's 6:35pm already and the Magrib Prayer is fast approaching to honour the Muslims in our midst short break need to be observed to allow them to exercise their religious right and gave directives that the sitting will continue by 7:20pm.
The agenda that follows is the Senate resolution on the then Suspended President and he addresses the sitting as follows:
"Some months back the Senate chamber leveled some count's charges against the Suspended President
On the 6th of March, 2024 while on the 10th of March The Suspended President was suspended based on four counts charges and resolution of the Senate chamber entails
"1. Mismanagement of the union fund by not given a detailed report on how money was spent on jamb scholarship.
2. Operation pay high institution students school fees
3. Dragging Union name in the mood
4. Collaboration with NYC for a program not duelling approved by the Senate chamber
5. Declaring the wrong number of the bursary
While their resolution states that
Having flouted different sections of the constitution aforementioned above The FASU NEC President, Amb. BUSARI Saheed Abiodun, is hereby suspended indefinitely from his office pending when he clears his name on charges levelled against him in lieu to the constitution CHAPTER 5, ARTICLE 2, SECTION A, REMOVAL OF OFFICER OF THE UNION, {1}{2 I,II,III}) of the FASU Sacrosanct Constitution after after a motion raised by Sen. Abobarin Olaleken from Olupona constituency which was Seconded by Sen. ADEYEMO Khadijat Adeola from the same constitution on 10th March, 2024.
The NEC President is hereby given Seventy-two hours (72hrs) to refund back the ₦1,000 collected from FASUITES which is against the directives given by the NAOSS Headquarters and also given 24hours to bring down the WhatsApp group he opened to impersonate the union group which have brought a lot of confusion amongst the members home and diaspora or ready to face the penalty of the bylaws for misrepresentation in (CHAPTER 1, ARTICLE 3, SECTION C, TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP {7,8,9,10 Page 12}).
9. No official of the union should receive union funds in their personal account anymore, except in an official account of the union in a known and approved commercial bank.
10. The obligation of the President is hereby vested on the Vice-President as an acting President pending when the President clears his name in accordance of the constitution (CHAPTER 2, ARTICLE 2, SECTION B, III Page 18) of the FASU Sacrosanct Constitution
And all the union property in possession of the President should be handed over to the Acting Vice-President before 72 hours."
The President of the Senate Further said after these directives of the Senate were adhered to by the Suspended President, by refunding the extra funds collected from FASUITES back which every victims attested to after the Senate investigation and furthermore said an apology letter was sent to the Senate chamber and all FASUITES for the act of disrespecting them by the Suspended President. He further tender apologies to the Senate chamber 2022, aegis leadership of the Dist. Sen. Dauda Hammed Olamide for calling their review constitution irrelevant and kangaroo.
Then the President of the Senate further asked what are the Opinions of the Senators?
Sen. Abobarin Olaleken suggested he should be reinstated back having fulfilled the requirements of the Senate.
Other contrary opinions were further asked for whom no opinions emanated and it was asked to be input into motion which the Senator in question did and it was Seconded by Sen. Mohammed Abdullahi Abefe from Ileogbo constituency.
The Agenda that follows is Any other business (AOB) and Senator Abobarin Olaleken raised motion for constituting the judiciary committee which was Seconded by Sen. SODIQ Akinbayo from Ileogbo constituency seconded the motion.
The President of the Senate explained that during the last physical Senate sitting resolution was met to constitute it but it was pend due to By-election for vacant positions of the union that are yet to be occupied but the General Congress will hear from the Senate soon regarding it.
Motion for adjournment was called for and Sen. Muhammed Abdullahi from Ileogbo constituency raised the motion to adjourn the sitting and was Seconded by Sen. Tiamiyu Abdulquadri Akofe from Ileogbo constituency.
The Senate President gave glory to Almighty Allah and voted for thanks to all FASUITES and the Senators for their time and further said the NEC President, Amb. Busari Saheed Abiodun is hereby reinstated back and he should assume his constitutional duties in office with immediate effect and further said he believes what happened during the suspension saga will be an eye opener to everyone of us that in whatsoever we do transparency and accountability matters most. The sitting ends by exactly 9:27pm.
