First edition of Ibidoyin Aina female football tournament gets May 18 kick off date in Lagos




On Saturday 18th May, 2024 at the Legacy pitch, National stadium Surulere, the inaugural edition of the Ibidoyin Aina's football competition will kick off amid pomp and pageantry. 

The tournament was initiated to celebrate female football talent in Nigeria, and also  serve as a platform for community engagement and empowerment.

A brainchild of a foremost Nigeria legal practitioner and a former footballer herself, Ibidoyin Aina, the tournament amongst other things represent her quest to give back to the community and also promote female football in Nigeria.

Expected to be an annual event, The tournament, in its maiden edition will feature four teams representing different areas of Lagos State which includes Epe, Badagry, Lagos Island and Lagos Mainland divisions.

Amongst other objectives, the tournament is aimed at celebrating the talent and dedication of female footballers in Lagos State;Promote gender equality and empower women through sports and also serve as a platform to provide a platform for grassroots female football development and exposure.

While it will also foster community engagement and unity through sporting activities, the tournament also seeks to raise funds for charitable causes benefiting women and girls in Lagos State.

About Ibidoyin Aina

Ibidoyin Aina is a legal practitioner with focus on Sports, Entertainment, Banking and Finance Law. 

She started playing football at the age of 6. Aina is an advocate for gender equality especially in sports as well as presence of women where it matters. 

In view of her passion for female football, Ibidoyin Aina pioneered the creation of a female football team in her primary school, secondary school and University. She was the captain of her university’s female football team for 5 years leading the team to record many victories.

Ibidoyin Aina has supported a number of female football clubs and female athletes. She has also served as a guiding light for female football clubs and academies with regards to the legal aspect of the football business. She has been the legal advisor to FEFAP and WAFA since 2021. Her main aim is female empowerment in Sports.
