Former Unilorin Warriors talismen, Ayeni, Ayinde catapult NYSC to monumental victory of Ahlan Cup
In a historic moment in Abuja, two former Unilorin warriors players, Ayeni Joshua and Ayinde Taiye, showcased their skills to lead the NYSC Football team to an unforgettable triumph in the finals of the Ahlan NLO preseason Cup.
Both graduates from the University of Ilorin, Ayeni and Ayinde were selected as the most efficient players to represent the National Youth Service Corp Football Team. Their impact was immediate as they emerged victorious over Sports Supply FC, winning 4-2 in a thrilling penalty shootout after a goalless 90 minutes of intense actions at both ends.
This victory marks a significant milestone for the NYSC Football team, as it is their first triumph in a final of a football competition in nearly three decades, with their previous success dating back to 1996. Their journey to the final was equally impressive, winning all four matches except for one defeat, which occurred in a match where both ex-captains were absent from the squad.
Ayeni Joshua and Ayinde Taiye, renowned for their fearlessness, hard work, and resilience during their time with the Unilorin warriors, continue to soar higher and brighter in their football careers.
Looking ahead, the NYSC Football Team will resume training on Monday, 26th February 2024, in preparation for their upcoming match against Likeminds FC on the 4th of March. They aim to make their mark at this year's State Confederation (Aiteo) Cup of the FCT Abuja Zone.
We wish these two great warriors continued success and injury-free outings as they write their names in football history.
