Bako hails Kwara Football Academy boys' spirit as team emerge first runner-up in CAF Schools Football Qualifiers


Despite all odds stacked against team Kwara, the Administrator of Kwara Football Academy who also doubles as the Director of Sports at Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bako Ibrahim has commended the boys for emerging as the first runner-up of this year's National School Sports Championship. 


The Kwara Football Academy boys who represented the state at the annual tournament which normally serves as qualifiers for CAF Schools Football Championship clinched the silver trophy in the after losing 5-4 on penalites to team Enugu earlier on Wednesday.

The Nine-man Kwara team had to come back from a goal down and drag the affairs to spot kicks where they later lost the game.

Speaking after the final match which was played at the Area 3 playing ground in Abuja, Mallam Bako lauded the players for their incredible performance which he described as unprecedented.

"The boys gave good account of themselves. Despite having to play all the games with just nine players from the beginning of the tournament till this moment because others were screened out, we can't but really commend them for coming thus far. 

Bako, who noted that that the state is proud of their performance, said the Academy will not relent on its oars in producing great football talents with the right values.

"We have taken a lot of positives out of this competition. One thing is sure, we will continue to develop football talents with all the resources in our capacity" he said.

The seasoned sports administrator also commended the Technical crew and back room staffs of the Academy for their steadfastness.

He lauded the Kwara State Government for their support to the Academy, adding that the football institution will continue to be a talent hub. 

With just Nine players, the KFA boys reached the final of the TOURNAMENT with unbeaten by defeating the representatives of Ebonyi, Taraba, FCT Abuja and Ogun State respectively. 

Meanwhile, their impressive performance has earned the team an opportunity to have some of its players join the team Enugu for the CAF African Schools Championship in Lomé Togo from November 23rd this year.
