20 teams to battle for glory as Ciroma of Ilorin Cup Begins 


A lone goal from Sodiq Abdulrazaq was all Dickalo Football Academy needed to see off a tough battle with Abraysports FC in the opening ceremony of the Ciroma of Ilorin Cup on Sunday at the Kwara football Academy.

The football tournament, organised in honour of the Ciroma of Ilorin, Alhaji Abubakar Bature Sulu-Gambari (SAN) was initiated by Coach Akeju Olanrewaju.

Speaking at the well attended opening football match, the representative of the Ciroma of Ilorin who also performed the official kick off ceremony, Alhaji Muhammed Aliyu Balogun, the District Head Olooru commended the organisers of the tournament.

"It's a rare privilege for me to represent our revered Ciroma of Ilorin at this football event. This is a very great idea to celebrate him and I wish all the teams participating in the tournament the best of luck".

Earlier in his remarks, the Chief organiser of the competition, Coach Akeju Olanrewaju noted that the tournament was initiated in honour of the Ciroma of Ilorin, adding that it's also an opportunity to get the youths engaged.

Some of the guests at the event include the Executive Chairman of Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bola Mogaji; Administrator of Kwara Football Academy,Mallam Ibrahim Bako;  Barrister Aiyegbami; Alhaji Ibrahim Muhideen (Coach) and Alhaji Bolaji Gambari.

Also in attendance are the Deputy Technical Director of Kwara Football Academy, Coach Shuaib Olatunji ;Kwara PFAN Chairman, Coach Ashifat Sulyman; Coach Taofeeq Babatunde, Dr.Opeyemi Amoo FIFA(Rtd) and a  host of others.

The tournament will continue on Monday with another round of interesting matches.
