Sponsor reveals inspiration behind Chris Olatunji Charity Cup, targets youth empowerment 



The major sponsor of the Chris Olatunji Charity Cup, Christian Olatunji has revealed the inspiration behind the tournament.

Speaking about the championship, he noted that the tournament was conceived with the idea of contributing his quota to the development of the society with the focus on youth empowerment. 

"We decided to put this tournament together with the purpose of creating a platform to bring the youths together as a way of encouraging them in their career and helping them sharpen their skills.

Olatunji added that the ongoing maiden edition will serve as a benchmark for organising the subsequent edition.

"This first edition is a trial one. By next edition, we will ensure that we give our footballers a greater opportunity by bringing in top FIFA football agents and  scouts around the world.

According to Olatunji, a memorandum of understanding has been signed with top football agents who will be on the ground by the next edition to connect players with opportunity in Europe. 

In his own remarks, the Coordinator of the tournament, Coach Bashir Abolarinwa, applauded the sponsor for his generousity.

Bolarinwa, revealed that apart from the fact that no registration fee was taken from the 44 teams that participated in the tournament, the sponsor has approved mouth-watering prize money for the winners and runner-up of the tournament.

A whopping sum of N150,000 has been announced for the winner of the tournament, N50, 000 for the first runners-up and N20, 000 for the third place winner.

The competition which is now in the semi-final stage will see Barrier FA takes on Adabata FC and Elite FC takes on Gaa Akanbi FC in a date to be announced by the organiser.

Meanwhile, a sum of N20,000 each and a set jersey will be given to all the semi-finalists ahead of their game. This according to the organisers will boost their morale and also add value to the tourney.
