Unilorin Don urges footballers to shun drugs as KFA emerges champions of Kwara APFAN league

Kwara Football Academy has emerged the champions of the 2022  Kwara APFAN league cup.

The team, having finished top of the log with 25 points from 10 games was crowned the winner of the six-teams tied league on Tuesday after defeating Unity Soccer FA of Offa 1-0 in their last league game.

Speaking after the match, the Chairman of Kwara State Chapter of APFAN, Bello Lasoro Abubakar-Ola thanked all the stakeholders for their support towards the success of the league.

"We would like to appreciate all the stakeholders for their support towards the success of this event. Kwara APFAN is proud of this moment and we have now been inspired to do more" said the Chairman who noted that the league has been able to open doors of opportunities for all the players.

He also revealed that a total number of 30 players have been selected from all the teams that participated in the league to represent the state in the APFAN National tournament coming up early in 2023.

Earlier in her lecture which centred on Education and Sports for the 21st century,  Professor Olufunmilola Leah Dominic from the Department of Health and Physical Education, University of Ilorin urged all the players to shun drugs and ensure a balanced approach to their career and education.

One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of certificate of participation to Kwara APFAN members who participated at the just concluded NOC/Olympic solidarity sports medicine seminar which held in Lagos recently.

Marking Stars FC of Ipee,La Planet Sports Academia, Bashmed FA and SC Primisports Lasora FA are the other teams who participated in the league which was organized in an home and away format.

Some of the dignitaries present at the event include Executive Chairman of Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bola Mogaji; Kwara State Football Association Chairman, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Thuraya; ABS Ilorin FC Director of Football, High Chief Alloy Chukwuemeka; Administrator of KFA, Mallam Ibrahim Bako;  CEO and Publisher of Sportspro News, Bayour Issah and host others.

Association of Proprietors of football Academies of Nigeria (APFAN) is a body with focus on the development of footballers and club administrators at the grassroots level through their various strategic programmes .
