Kwara Athletics Team Gear Up For National Trials In Benin
Members of Kwara State Athletics team have intensified their preparations ahead of the National Trials in Benin, the Edo State Capital.
The athletes, who could be seen training at the Kwara State Stadium Complex on Wednesday are fired up to make the best of the event.
Speaking to newsmen, Coach Hammed Muritala stated that about Eight athletes will be representing Kwara State in different Athletics event that make up the National Trials..
"We are ready for the Trials. The Athletes have been looking forward to this opportunity even before we got the invitation. I believe that they will make the State proud" said the Coach.
He further identified some of the Athletes that will be representing the
State, among which are Musa kola Nurain in 100m/200m event, Teslim Oyedele in 400 metre hurdles, Emmanuel Njoku in long jump and
Mustapha Ruqayat for discuss event.
Other athletes that would be donning the State Colours includes Sa'ad Etsu and Oluwafemi Murewa in 100 metre event.
The trials, organised by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) among many other objectives willl serve as the avenue to make final selection of Nigeria representatives to the Commonwealth Games and World Athletics Championship.
Scheduled to hold at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, Edo from June 21-23, athletes from all the States of the Federation are expected to grace the 3-day event.
According to the Coach, the Kwara contingent will depart for Benin on June 19 for the trials.
