Kwara Cricket Coach, Yusuf Awobola Gets National Team Appointment




Kwara State Cricket Team Coach, Yusuf Awobola has been appointed as the Assistant Coach 1 of the National U-19  Women team.

His appointment was contained in a redeployment of National teams Coaches/Officials circular released by Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) and dated 5th of May.

Awobola, who led the Kwara Male team that won Silver at the last National Sports festival in Edo will work with Onome Oghenekevwe, the Head Coach and Azuka Onwujiobi, Assistant Coach 2 at the National team.

According to the circular, the redeployment which takes immediate effect will last for 6 months after a which a committee will be set up to begin the process of engaging candidates for the designated positions.

"The Board of the Nigeria Cricket Federation has approved the redeployment of the following as National team Coaches/Officials . The redeployment which takes immediate effect will last for a period of 6 months. At the end of the period, a committee would be set up to begin the process of engaging candidates for the designated positions" reads the circular which was signed by the General Manager, Emeka Igwillo. 

The redeployment of Coaches/Officials include the Technical crew of the Senior's men and women National team and U-19 Men and Women National team.

NCF in an official statement noted that the reshuffling and appointment of the officials which is coming after the resignation of the former Head Coach of the National team, Asanka Gurusinha is imperative to engage an all round indigenous Coaches to fill in the positions.

Hails from Oro in Kwara State, Awobola who is getting his first National appointment is a former Player of the Nigeria National Cricket team who also had a stint in South Africa during his active days.
