SGFC Athletics Clinch Maiden Edition Of Evolution Cup
SGFC Athletics have emerged the champions of the maiden edition of Evolution Cup after defeating Beyond Limits in the final 5-4 on penalties.
The final of the NLO Pre-season Invitational tournament played on Saturday at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne saw a display of soccer artistry at its best.
Beyond Limits drew the first blood in the game when Dimeji Dada fired them to the lead with a sublime strike in the 32nd minutes.
It was all Beyond Limits affairs in the first half as they dictate the pace of the game from end to end, even as they failed to make most of their chances.
The SGFC boys would have their goalkeeper, Sdoje Daniel thanked as he stood between the sticks, saving them a lot of damage.
SGFC regained their hope in the game when their second half substitute, Hyginus Wisdom scored in the 46th minutes to give them a leveler.
The game would later be stretched to the spot kick after a 1-1 draw in the regulation time.
The final event was witnessed by the Chief operating officer(COO) of NLO, Shola Ogunnowo and the sponsor of the championship, Agboola Akanji who is the CEO of Alphakay International Sports.
Speaking at the final, the Project Strategist, Olatoye Olawale expressed satisfaction with the level of the team's performance, saying the tourney has been fulfilling in its essence.
"We are really pleased with the performances of the 10 teams that participated in this tournament. It's really gratifying to know that the competiton has availed the clubs the opportunity to know how best they can further prepare them ahead of the season," he said.
While SGFC Athletics scooped a whopping sum of N300,000 for clinching the trophy, Beyond Limits also smiled home with N200,000 of prize money as the runners-up.
The tournament, sponsored by Alphakay International Sports and packaged by Sportsflames communication featured Abraysports FC, Right2Win FC, Olansile FC, Hammola International FC and Beyond Limits FC.
Other teams are Rolly FC, Magic Stars FC, Olukismet FC, Ilaji FC and champions SGFC Athletics.
