7th Edition Of AFA Inter-Schools Football Tourney Sets Ajaokuta Alight
The search for glory among all the 10 participating schools at the 7the edition of the Ajaokuta Football Academy (AFA) inter-secondary schools football tournament has started on Monday.
Longevity Secondary School grabbed the first win of the competiton when they defeated Kingdom Comprehensive Secondary School 3 goals to nil in the opening game played at Africa camp football Pitch.
Speaking about the competition, Engineer Muhammed Abdulkadir, the Chairman of AFA said the biennial grassroots oriented tournament is aimed at reawakening the significance of sports at Ajaokuta steel complex and Kogi State at large.
"AFA has always gotten the players from this tournament. This is a way of recruitment for AFA, so it's a symbiotic relationship for us-we get the Players from the secondary school and we train them on their football careers". Said the Chairman.
The administrator noted that some innovations like athletics will be added to this edition of with consideration on how practical their organisation would be with the project.
Engineer Muhammed, who said the tournament couldn't hold last year because of Covid-19
revealed that the organisers have started working on how girl child would be integrated in to the initiative and also set agenda for the promotion of others sports apart from football.
"By next year, we are going to see what we are going to do. We have been working so much with the boys so we want to see how we can bring the girls in too"
He commended all the schools participating in the competition and urged them to cooperate with the organisers for the success of the tournament.
On Tuesday, Sally Academy will be doing the battle against Legacy School at the ASCL staff School 1 mini stadium, Ajaokuta.
