Avoid Racial Inferiority, Members Of Pan-Africa Unilorin Told
Members of the Pan-Africa Club University of Ilorin have been urged to deconstruct the narrative of racial inferiority and assert themselves in the cause for the total liberation of Africa.
Speaking at the maiden orientation programme of the club on Friday, Mr Laolu Ololade, who delivered a speech on 'who is a Pan-Africanist' and how Africanism can serve as tool for total liberation of Africa tasked the students to rise up to the challenges of 21st century and take the responsibility of turning things around for the continent.
He enjoined the students to crave for excellence in their educational pursuits and urged them to broaden their scope on how the pioneers of black struggle movements prevailed in the fight against white supremacy.
"You need to avoid racial inferiority and the dissatisfaction with being African alone. Be proud of yourself and your race" said the guest speaker who advocated the need for mental revolution in Africa.
"You must make sure that your African dream manifest in any field you choose to dwell on; whether Politics, academia, entertainment and other professions" stressed Mr. Laolu.
While charging members of the club to be a role model in character, he emphasized the need for intellectual acumen and time-tested values in the cause of leading the continent out of its contraption.
The orientation programme, which coincides with the observance of International Human rights day also saw the speaker talking about issues bordering on fundamental human rights in Africa.
Earlier in the programme,the Staff Adviser of the Club, Dr. Suleiman Adebayo of History and International Studies department of the University advised the members of club to exemplify the best of values, character and attitude in their dealings on and off the campus.
He commended the executive for organizing the programme which he said will further enlighten the members on the inception message of the organization.
In his opening remark, the President of the Club, Yemi Sodeeq stated that the idea of the programme was aimed at grounding the members of the club with the principles of Africanism as a tool for the total liberation of Africa .
Pan-Africa Club Unilorin was established in 2021 with aims to promote African ideals and build a community of people with deep and keen interest in the development of Africa.
The club, which is formally registered with the school authority has emerged as a point of attraction for many Afro-optimist students on the campus.
