Tension in Ogun APC Over Alleged Threat Against Ward Secretary

Tension is mounting within the Ogun State chapter of the APC following an alleged threat against Comrade Owolabi Aleshinloye (OwoSports Alesh), a sports journalist, sports administrator, and APC Secretary of Iju Ward in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government.

According to reports, a prominent APC chieftain, Chairman of the Road Motorcycle Owners and Riders Organisation (ROMO) and National President of ROMAN, Alhaji Olusola Sotayo, popularly known as Solebo, was captured in a trending video on social media allegedly threatening Comrade Owolabi Aleshinloye (OwoSports Alesh), the APC Secretary of Iju Ward.

Aleshinloye also serves as the Coordinator of the Ado-Odo/Ota Progressives Secretaries (APS), a platform responsible for coordinating the activities of the sixteen ward secretaries across the local government.

Speaking in Yoruba during the APC presidential primary meeting held at AUD Primary School, Iju, on Saturday, May 23, 2026, Solebo was heard making remarks that have since sparked controversy and concern among party members.

Translated into English, his statement reads:

“I am saying it again: the person who calls himself the secretary of this ward has not been seen. I dare him, if he is bold enough, to come to the ward and present himself as secretary, and then he will see what happens to him.”

The statement was reportedly met with loud applause and cheers from some supporters present at the event, further heightening concerns among party faithful and residents of the area.

Since the video surfaced online, it has generated widespread reactions across social media platforms, with many condemning the alleged threat and calling on party leaders to take urgent steps to address the situation before it escalates.

Observers have expressed concern that such remarks could deepen divisions within the party and undermine the peace and unity needed ahead of future political engagements as general elections are approaching.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Ogun State APC leadership nor the Nigeria Police Force has issued an official statement regarding the incident.

The development has left many party members and stakeholders anxiously awaiting a response, while calls continue to grow for calm, dialogue, and intervention to prevent any breakdown of law and order within the local chapter of the party.
